How the Verified badge works

Verified means the owner confirmed an email address and proved control of the business's website domain, on the date shown on the badge. Nothing else.

We do not check licenses, insurance, bonding or quality.

What the badge looks like

What we check

1. An email address. Every listing on businesslist.me was confirmed by clicking a link we emailed to its owner.
2. Control of the website's domain. The domain is the one in the listing's Website field (for example yourbusiness.com). The owner proves control in one of three ways:
   • a 6-digit code we email to admin@, info@ or office@ at that domain, or to the listing's public email if it is at that domain;
   • a DNS TXT record businesslist-verify=<code> on the domain; or
   • a file at https://yourbusiness.com/.well-known/businesslist-verify.txt containing the code.

What cannot verify

Free email domains (such as gmail.com, yahoo.com, outlook.com, aol.com or icloud.com) and site-builder addresses (such as yourname.wixsite.com or yourname.square.site) belong to those companies, not to the business, so they cannot earn the badge.

Keeping it current

DNS and file checks are repeated every 90 days. If two checks in a row, a week apart, fail, the badge is paused and the owner is emailed; it comes back as soon as a check passes.

What the badge is not

It is not an endorsement by businesslist.me or WeldonPC, and it is not a rating. There are no reviews or star ratings on businesslist.me.
